Northern Lights & Dark Sky Park

The best time to see the Northern Lights in Scotland is mid Oct - mid March. Click here for Visit Scotland's top locations to catch a glimpse of this natural phenomenon yourself. With low light pollution, a clear night sky becomes alive with rainbows of light in all colours, shapes and patterns. For best chances you want to avoid any times with cloud or a full moon. Also, Galloway Forest Park is one of the best places to stargaze in Europe (the UK’s first Dark Sky Park in 2009).

Travel Tip -3 ways to get a cheaper holiday

Person putting coin in piggy bank.
There are a few things to think about when you want to get away.

1. Avoiding ‘peak travel times’ is a must, like busier school holiday times in summer and spring.

2. Another tip is mid-week usually gives you the best deal – as hotels know most people like a weekend break, their nightly rates go up a bit at the weekend.

3. It’s also a good idea to check if there is a major event happening in town – for sport, a music gig or convention – as this increases demand with hotels filling up. Nightly rates may increase, especially if located near the venue. Glasgow has been expecting 25,000 visitors due to attend COP26 this month (UN Climate Change Conference) including nearly 200 nations and 120 heads of state, which will also impact travel in the area.

Destination of the Month: Dundee

One of our most well-travelled customers Ewan took a short break to Dundee in October, with his regular Holiday Companion Alan. Arriving by train they soon were settled in at their hotel and began exploring the city. The guys took in a show at Caird Hall and visited The V&A, the cinema to see the new 007 movie and some pubs. You can see some of his holiday snaps below.
